You are declining a job offer you have just received because your current firm is ready to give you a promotion. Here is a sample refusal letter that you can send to the company that just offered you the job.

Dear Mr. Roy
Thank you for offering me the position of Sales Manager for which I recently interviewed. I discussed this matter with my current employer and they have expressed an interest in retaining me. In fact, they have even offered me a promotion as Area Vice President. It is a great opportunity (which came as a complete surprise) and I do not want to pass it up. Therefore, I must decline your kind offer. I hope you understand my situation.
