4. I told the children to keep quiet.

5. I don't think that he is telling the truth.

6. He has a reputation for telling nasty jokes. (There are some common expressions with tell: tell the truth, tell a lie; tell a joke)

7. He asked whether I was free. (The words say and tell cannot be used to introduce indirect questions.)

8. I can see an aeroplane. (See is one of those verbs that are not normally used in the continuous form.)

9. Suddenly I saw something strange.

10. See if that shirt still fits you. (When see means find out, it can be followed by if or whether.)
