All ready and already

All ready means fully prepared.

  • We are all ready to leave.
  • ‘Are you all ready?’ ‘No, John isn’t.’

Already is an adverb of time, meaning ‘by now’, ‘sooner than expected’.

  • ‘When is Jane coming?’ ‘She has already arrived.’
  • They have already left.
