Degrees of Comparison Worksheet for Class 5 CBSE

When we compare two people or things, we use the comparative form of the adjective.
We form comparative adjectives by adding –er to the positive adjective.

Tall – taller
Big – bigger
Small – smaller
Nice – nicer
Kind – kinder

Adjectives of three or more syllables form their comparatives with more.

Beautiful – more beautiful
Difficult – more difficult
Pleasant – more pleasant
Careful – more careful

When we compare three or more people or things, we use the superlative form of the adjective.
We make the superlative forms by adding –est to the positive adjective.

Soft – softer – softest
Tiny – tinier – tiniest
Clever – cleverer – cleverest

High – higher – highest

Adjectives of three or more syllables form their superlative forms with most.

Intelligent – more intelligent – most intelligent
Ridiculous – more ridiculous – most ridiculous
